God Forgives. Shouldn’t We?

God Forgives. Shouldn’t We?

(July 12, 2023)

I am reminded:

As one points an accusing finger to another person, more fingers are pointed toward oneself. In our belief that we have been wronged and unjustly treated, we naturally get angry and treat the other with indignation and indifference without dialogue. Are we fair?

We are called to be men and women of love and forgiveness by God who has nothing but love, compassion and forgiveness offered to us. We practice piety devotedly and call on God as "Lord." Yet, how have we treated our neighbor who we believed had wronged us? Have we been just?

We demand fair treatment from the other. Have we been fair to them ourselves?

We demand truth and honesty from them. Have we been honest and truthful to them ourselves?

We demand transparency and sincerity from them. Have we been openly sincere to them ourselves?

We threw stones so fast onto others that we did not check ourselves first if it is justified for us to stone them.

In the privacy of our room, go in front of a mirror and look directly to our own self. Let us ask ourselves on the mirror:

Have we been truly honest unlike the one we accused of deceit?

Have we been dutifully truthful unlike the one we accused of hypocrisy?

Sometimes we allow ourselves to be swayed by factors outside of us that we forget to do some self-examen. Let us take time to pause. Let the silence and solitude be an opportunity for us to look into ourselves and find out what was our role in this fiasco.

Is it all the other person's fault or did we contribute to the reason that led the other person to do that which hurt us. What was our role in the mess?

Be still. Pray. Discern that the voice we hear in our conscience is the voice of God and not the voice of our own pride and pained ego. After thoughtful prayer and reflection, do we still continue the mean treatment that we give to the other?

Are we ready to forgive? Are we ready to ask forgiveness as well? Are we open to care again. Can we love again? How will God act if He was in our shoes? Let us remember:
