NOTHING LASTS FOREVER

NOTHING LASTS FOREVER

(June 6, 2023)

I observed that in many, if not all, social media platforms, postings about failed relationships or loss of a loved one have become prevalent. And the thoughts and advice of “move on” and “let go” are almost everywhere.

Here is one word that has become very popular too – “forever”. In particular, the posts are mostly saying “walang por-eber” (no forever). That is, there is no forever in life particularly in a supposed to be a loving relationship.

Narratives of broken relationships abound. Some have lasted for years but still ended in tears. Heartbreaks. Pain. Cheating was involved to some. To others, it was just falling out of love, whatever that means.

Some ended because of death. That they say was “until death do us part” experience and therefore that in truth there is “forever” in a relationship. It was something that went beyond the physical. It was something like an almost transcendental experience between two people who truly and deeply loved one another. An unconditional love they said.

Even friendships are not spared from this “walang forever” because of betrayal of trust in so many different forms; some were naturally dissolved because of absence and distance where communication stopped.

Of course, some would go into the realm of the spiritual, of the religious, that only God’s love is forever because God loves humanity unconditionally. Depending on the faith or religious values or belief you adhere to, I leave that discussion to you. I will simply state here that I am a believer of the Almighty. I call Him my God. Others call Him Allah, Yahweh, Krishna, etc. My faith tells me that God IS forever. He loves me forever. He is beside me forever – manifested in different ways. He is the only “forever” that I hold on to.

I am not a relationship guru, so I leave the discussion just right here. I know for a fact that we all have unique experiences of broken relationships in various realities, in depth and breath. It is for each one of us to ponder if truly there is “no por-eber.”

Really now, does nothing last forever?
