Actors in Politics

Actors in Politics

Probably the most famous personality in the entertainment industry who ventured to politics was Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States of America. His background tells us that even though he was an actor in the film industry, he had a solid experience in governance and politics. He started as an officer in school government and as Governor of California before getting elected to the highest government position in the USA and the most powerful one in the world.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy was an actor prior to becoming Ukraine's 6th President. He has a law degree though never practiced the profession. He had a very clear and people-oriented platform of governance and clearly manifested himself as a leader right in the battlefield, figuratively and literally.
Are any of the current actors/actresses and celebrities in Philippines Politics, both already in government and those running for a position, somehow have a bit of a qualification to take the tasks and responsibilities of the position they are in or aspiring to win? Being popular or have a clout or have millions of followers on social media are not assurances of being fit in government position. While there are a few who metamorphosed into becoming very good politicians and government officers, it is not always true to some. Remember one election topnotcher who everyone watched was nonchalantly eating and chewing in the midst of a heated argument between two protagonists about a particular government concern?
In all, everyone is feeling the deep pinch of the sorry state of he Philippines in all levels. The trillion of funds left by PNoy's administration was replaced by trillions of debts by the succeeding administration and still growing with no relief in sight in the current administration. The mistakes of 2016 and 2022 should never happen again. It is not enough to only vote wisely. We have to make sure that our votes are rightfully counted and the true will of the people prevails. Vote wisely, yes. But also, watch and fight for our votes that they are counted correctly. Let the true will of the people rule. If we fail again as a people, then, regrettably and sadly, there might not be another chance for a better Philippines anymore.
