On Eagle’s Wings

For reasons I do not know nor understand, this song has been playing in my head for several days now and I could not ignore it anymore. I looked for it on YouTube and watched the video. As I did, thoughts kept flowing in my mind. Let me share them with you.

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord
Who abide in His shadow for life
Say to the Lord, "My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!"

We are God’s children. (Romans 8:16) As children of God we dwell in His shelter. We are always under His divine patronage and protection. In times of need, He is our provider. In times of weakness, He is our strength. In times of despair, He is our consolation. 

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand. 

Like eagle’s wings, God is always ready to embrace us and put us under His protection. We depend on God on everything in our life. We are under His care. Always. 

The snare of the fowler will never capture you
And famine will bring you no fear
Under His wings your refuge, His faithfulness your shield.

Trials and challenges may come our way. Grief and despair may envelop us. But we must never forget that God is always with us to protect us and embrace us with His love. He will never leave us. He is our faithful God.

You need not fear the terror of the night
Nor the arrow that flies by day
Though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come.

Be not afraid. (Deuteronomy 31:6. John 6:20) God constantly assures us of His presence and protection in our lives. We should not fear. Life may not always be “a bed of roses” but with God’s assurance of His fidelity to us, He will always be with us no matter what. We only need to believe and keep the faith. Trust Him and always pray.

For to His angels, He's given a command
To guard you in all of your ways
Upon their hands they will bear you up
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

God sends His angels to guard and protect us. (Psalm 91:11) Our guardian angels are always by our side making sure that we are safe and free from harm. It might be difficult to understand this because of the presence of hardships and dangers in our daily life. But a good number of personal accounts about the angel’s protection at dangerous times have proven that angels do exist to protect us. It is faith. Because we believe, miracles happen.

Speaking of angels, I look at this one also on the more practical side. Angels are not always the ones with picture that have wings. “Angels” come in different forms in our lives – a smile from a stranger as we walk to a place of work or study; a greeting of “hello” or “how are you” from a friend; an “I love you” from a significant person; an offering of food to satisfy our hunger or a drink to quench our thirst; and so on. Angels are our loved ones and friends who are always by our side offering their love and support at all times.

Our faith in God assures us that we are “On Eagle’s Wings” – under God’s protection. Life may be cruel sometimes…that’s part of life because we are subject to our own frailties and weaknesses. But God is our strength and protector. He will “raise us up.” He will “bear you on the breath of dawn.” He will “make you to shine like the sun.” And faithful to His love for us, God will “hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Believe. Trust. Pray. Keep the faith.

  CALLED TO BE HEALERS TO ONE ANOTHER (January 26, 2024)   Reflection on the Gospel (Mark 1:29-39)   Question: Why did Peter deny knowing Jesus three times? Answer: Because Peter was so mad at Jesus for healing his other in-law.   Of course, that was only a joke. It was a joke revolving around the relationship between in-laws. Jesus healed the mother in-law of Peter from fever. The succeeding parts of the Gospel, Jesus continued with his ministry of healing – casting away demons, curing people from various illnesses and diseases, and many more. At the end of the day, Jesus came to a secluded place to pray and commune with His Father in heaven.
