HELLO . . . GOODBYE

(June 7, 2023)

Remembering my time in seminary-college where I wrote free-verse poems or simple musings as a way of expressing my inner thoughts and feelings, I wrote one that was entitled “Hellos and Goodbyes”. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of it but I still remember some lines:

          In every hello there is goobye:

-         Every birth, there is death

-         Every laughter, there are tears

-         Every joy, there is sadness

-         Every love, there is hate

-    Every beginning, there is an end.

Paradox in life. C’est la vie? L’chaim? Insha’allah?

No matter how we look at life, for whatever it has been with each one of us, we must remain GRATEFUL. Not everyone has a life that we have. Each person has his/her own unique experience. Good or bad, happy or sad, life is a dynamic undertaking. It could be a stressful journey and sometimes we wanted to give up on the road. Yet, we persevere because deep in our hearts we believe that the end is just out there, reachable. Soon we will reach our life’s goals. We just need to continue to pray for God’s assistance in giving us the knowledge to understand; the courage to accept; and the strength to continue the pilgrimage of life.

Perseverance. Hope. Faith. Prayer.

SABR. AHAVAH. GOD LOVES US ALL.

Silence is Golden

  Silence is Golden (November 22, 2023) In a world of advance technology and science, amidst the popularity of the use of various social media, and in every nook and cranny of the metropolis, silence is indeed golden. Noise pollution has become an accepted norm of daily living, and continuous movements of people and things around has become the core of progress. More and more cities have become like a “city that never sleeps.” To rest and be quiet even for just a few minutes has become a luxury in man’s daily living.   The world’s three major religions – Christianity, Judaism, and Islam – have emphasized the value of silence in their Holy Books – the Bible, the Torah, the Quran, as well as noted scholars and teachers of different faiths have written and/or spoken about it. “God’s will for me is to live an honorable life that should silence ignorant people. I am free to live however I choose. I choose to be a Servant of the Living God which means that most often silence is golden.

CALLED TO BE HEALERS TO ONE ANOTHER

  CALLED TO BE HEALERS TO ONE ANOTHER (January 26, 2024)   Reflection on the Gospel (Mark 1:29-39)   Question: Why did Peter deny knowing Jesus three times? Answer: Because Peter was so mad at Jesus for healing his other in-law.   Of course, that was only a joke. It was a joke revolving around the relationship between in-laws. Jesus healed the mother in-law of Peter from fever. The succeeding parts of the Gospel, Jesus continued with his ministry of healing – casting away demons, curing people from various illnesses and diseases, and many more. At the end of the day, Jesus came to a secluded place to pray and commune with His Father in heaven. Then immediately after dawn, Jesus begun his healing miracles and preaching.   We see, however, that at the end of the day, and even before the sun rises at dawn, Jesus come to a place to pray. Note that habit of Jesus – before and after a day’s activities, Jesus always find time to pray.   We may not be “healers” ourselve
